Of Lack and Letting Go
03:49
|
|||
I bear the crown of insignificance
And I guess when you're talking to yourself
All your prayers are worthless
Golden tongues have lost their shine,
Dressed their lies in thorns and labelled it Christ
No father, no king, this is regicide
Haunted by the thought of an empty sky
Violence in the name of silence
And 'mysterious ways'
The guilty speak of penance
But kill in the name of faith
Peering through cracks in the aftermath
Bastard sons, we pick up the damage done
Bastard sons, left to die by those above
Bigger hand than us, place existence on the tabletop
Royal blood leaks out at a linear rate of decay
The chalice rusts, the choir sings,
Cowards hide their pride in shame
Preachers and cynics alike
Place your faith in the slow decline
Look at what we have all become
Ghosts, staring at the clock face
Watched patiently by the mocking swing of the pendulum
The terrible price of time
We grow, not with age
But to cancer and plague
The organ plays a harrowing serenade
Whispering to the clergy that "the ignorance has started to fade"
The ignorance begins to fade

I can see in the dark, for I am the night
Draped in ancient golds, as a shattered sun fell from the sky
And the stars collide
They circle the drain
Drip into this coma inside
“Belonging”, said the walls of a broken home
“Cartography”, said the figure, wandering alone
The jaded don’t cower before an absent throne
Spent days following the foxes down the rabbit hole
I’ve heard whispers of the others
Of bitter kings and queens
Places of absent creation, where they’d drown their apathy
They met somewhere out in the blue
Makers of unknown latitudes
And they spoke, with such empty words that no one heard
No regard for significance, here’s your toast to emptiness
Malice in the glasses, half empty til we die
Even my reflection can’t look me in the eye
Can’t see the forest for the trees and the tracks behind us
Close your eyes tight enough and we might turn the world to diamonds
“One thing that I’ve learned of creation is to watch it slowly die, that’s mercy.
That's how I come to terms with watching you burn, perfect in my eyes, your ending.”
Over and over and over again, a constant reminder that this is all the end

The Whitest Lie
03:54
|
|||
These pages are a wasteland as far as I can see
I can never stop the sickness seeping into me
I've lost my way between the hours of my final days
I slip through the cracks of consciousness from my body where I lay
While a heart devoid of demons resides in the blessed cynic
Sit and watch every mountain in your mind become monolithic
Beloved and violent, the ebb and flow of parting tides
Iridescent and timeless, chasing lost causes through the night
Following my affliction to the depths of myself
The darkest corners of existence with the curses I am dealt
A word to the faithful - blind and vague, tall like Rome
Your church is a glass house, fragile empire
You're just fools casting stones
And if your plan is in fact my passing, then ease my weary mind
Tell me the place they speak of after is a heaven in my eyes
In the throes of my decay, between the ceiling and the sky
Every fibre of my being hopes you weren't the whitest lie
If a church is a coward's coma, wrap this man in arms and lies
I've been running from death forever, and you're the perfect place to hide.

Coalescence
03:52
|
|||
We speak in desperate tongues, of hymns and holy songs
He’s not ignoring us you see, just too tired to go on
Lend your ear to the madness, and sing along
All the enemies and lovers, condemned here from the start
Left to think and feel, we tore this place apart
We are chemicals in a vessel, the half-life of our hearts
A dance of wolves and saints, a tragic work of art
My head’s a place that makes your darkest days seem like paradise
I’ve had thoughts that would make your demons seem like friends in your eyes
I miss looking at the world without seeing terrible things and different ways to die
I’m still caught in the pantomime
It’s raining again in times of lack and ire song
The beauty fades to empty, it’s getting harder to go on
Falling in love with shadows, for darkness is all I’ve found
Watching that burdened figure slip away without a sound
We’ve found a change in the weather, and now it’s set to rain all day
With the very silver lining that kept the darkest clouds at bay
Oh, the cadence of sleep as it sweeps through the floor
There’s no rest for the wicked and I’m the worst of them all.
Idle hands, watching something golden die
Pioneers of godlessness while the faithful stood in line
We are all out of time.

Wayward Sparks
04:10
|
|||
Staring at the galaxies just inches above the waterline
We’re grains of sand in the hourglass, just a tempest of time
Building temples in the blackest nothing, a place to call home
They are just castles in a constant war against being alone
But jaded, we continue to roam
Weave gold through history, blurring the bloodlines
There is no architect, no path to the sky
We are just wayward sparks that pass each other by
Atwixt fingertips of creation, a pigment in the eye
“I’ve seen this parallel kaleidoscopes and mysteries bring great men to their knees,
Grow like labyrinths in their minds as orbit guides them through their dreams.
Surely as the plates beneath the earth will creak, the glaciers will drift
Grow old with them my child, through heartache and harmony, just exist.”

I gave you minds to become jaded
I gave you bodies to destroy
I watch as you all become wretched
I watch you build your own void
Existence, its cursed name
Wandered aimless from my shame
Countless miles away
After this sleight of hand, I can beg for mercy too
After everything, I should be the one begging forgiveness from you
I am not your king, just a man who lost his way
I am not your God, just a fool who's made mistakes
Like you, I lie awake at night, I hear you as you pray, I don't know what to say
You're all voices in my head, they haunt me every day, it never goes away
Blessed, when you return to dust
When you return to nothing
Whether we wallow in time or faith
Rest assured we all end the same
Dead with no name.
